Coming Home
Theatre Workshop's fourth production. Presented in June, 1997.

This end-of-the-year production demonstrates most successfully so far the concept of teamwork within the group-- an ensemble spirit, where many from a variety of backgrounds come together to perform as one. The show is the result of two semesters of risk taking, commitment and hard work. Now, at the end of our second year, the show involves well over 100 students, including stage crew. The theme of this show explores the concepts of immigration and coming to a new land and making it home. More ambitious technical effects are also added- like strobe lights and fog machines. Highlights in this show include: "The Journey"- an immigration dance story, showing without words the journey of families and individuals making their way to the U.S.; a sketch comedy piece called "The Parking Ticket"; "Just A Girl"- an experimental dance piece with an aggressive message about the treatment of girls in our society; a thrilling break dancing segment; and "Lean On Me"- a finale collaboration with Marshalls Orchestra and Chorus.

This semester students participate in a dance project called "The Hollywood Neighborhood Dance Project", performing two pieces from our big show ("The Lords Prayer" from the film Sarafina and an energetic Spanish dance to Gloria Estefans "Mi Tierra"), along with local professional dancers and neighborhood schools.
