a family thing
Theatre Workshop's sixth production. Presented in June, 1998.
Our two sections, now each with approximately fifty students enrolled, work on our end of the year show with the intention to match the very high standards set in the previous years. Off-track rehearsals become important in order to achieve the professional quality shows that have come to be expected from TW. By now, this final show has traditionally become a show dedicated to the seniors, just as they are about to graduate and enter "the real world". With this in mind, the theme of this show becomes family, in all its forms. This includes those who are our blood relatives and those others in our lives who give us love and support the good and the bad aspects of each. Highlights include: "Family of Man" an ambitious hip hop ballet co-choreographed with Philip Jeanmarie and Jackie Lopez, detailing the story of man through contemporary hip hop moves; "Oye Como Va" a party band featuring Marshalls rock and roll teachers playing and dancing along with students; "Sing, Sing, Sing" an exuberant swing dance with a cast of 60 dancers; "Senior Ditch Day" a wild and funny mime movement piece looking at a favorite senior activity; and an African drum dance choreographed by our guest choreographer Katina Calvin.
Marshalls students continue working with outside projects including:
working with Naomi Goldberg and her professional dance company on an Israeli dance called "Schnerela" presented at the Luckman Theater;
and "Butt-out Blues" an anti-smoking Public Service film directed by Alex Munoz, starring 12 TW students.
